about

After the completion of recording an album, there comes a feeling that encompasses both joy and terror in the idea of writing a follow up. I generally try to throw out the script from the previous record and just write whatever comes and not think about an album until I have enough songs to gel something together. With that comes a lot of experimentation. So following the release of Oh No! our previous record, I wrote and recorded demos (this is often done at the same time), rewrote, rerecorded, and wrote some more. Two albums started to take shape, one moody and low key, and one more rocking and fun. Weird Sleep is the former of the two. These recordings was initially meant to be demos, before I decided that I really enjoyed listening to them as they are. I recorded mostly in my house on my own, some are sound collages I put together using field recordings I made while on tour with Ancient Sky (the other band I play in), others were just fun experiments using both live recording mixed with home recording.

This record took many different shapes and initially was much longer. I trimmed it down to the songs I really enjoyed and tried to keep it under 30 minutes of music. I feel this is also a companion piece to Heaven which I released three years prior. The process was very similar, but while Heaven took only a few days to write and record, I spent over a year putting this one together. I hope you enjoy it.
